The Good War The Bad War essays

The Good War The Bad War essays World War Two was a good war and a bad war, good because the U.S. rose from a severally crippling depression. Bad because many were killed, injured and devastated by the loss of family, many were lured into the military under false beliefs. When I say good I mean that the market of economy in the U.S. was stimulated, something that was much needed. This put many people to work who never had a chance at making a real living before the war. First I will talk about why I thought that the war was a good war. Economically many people before the war were having a tough time making ends meet. Once the U.S. entered the war in 1941 the economy swiftly grew and put many people to work. The bracero program which was an American-Mexican program designed to let Mexicans cross the border into the U.S. and let them workjobs such as ship building on the Pacific coast.. Sioux and Navajos were hired by the masses to aid in the construction of military depots and training facilities. The African-Americans saw the war as an opportunity to make money in the work force and to prove their value in the military. In industry the number of black workers rose from 2,900,000 to3,800,000. Unions also enrolled 1,250,000 African-Americans. This gave the African Americans a real chanse at earning a respectable wage and being able to afford luxuries which were once unimaginable. Many of African-American workers worked in factories helping the war time effort. Women in the work force climbed the most drastically, during the great depression women who were married were barred form most jobs. But WW II, for the first time opened many doors for women in the work force. The number of female automobile workers for example jumped from 29,000 to 200,000 and that of women electrical workers from 100,000 to 374,000. This Quote from Out of many a history of the American people really shows you the amount of increase in women labor d...

Java programing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Java programing - Essay Example When confronted with a complex programming task, the programmer can make use of object oriented programming methodology to simplify the process. Instead of employing a large number of procedures in the code, the programmer chooses a number of objects and models their behavior, in such a manner that collectively these objects and interactions can cater to the system requirements. In addition, the programmer can now work on modules, which are classes to implement the system design. These can be reused and the standard library offers a vast number of such modules to perform a myriad of tasks (Buyya 166). Furthermore, the object – oriented programmer can employ inheritance to reuse the code written by him and add elegant features and behavior to an existing class, at the time of adapting it to a new problem (Balagurusamy 5). Features such as encapsulation and abstraction provided by object – oriented programming, greatly enhance the elegance and simplicity of the programming process. Consequently, it becomes easier for the programmer to focus on the actual requirements and work dynamically in teams, without redundancy (Goodrich and Tamassia 59 –

Strategy and Planning Essay Essay Example for Free

Strategy and Planning Essay Essay The maximum exploitation of our resources is the key to advantage over the competitors. Marketing is one of the main areas in which a well versed strategic plan can make the organisation to attract customers here the way in which we describe the organizations motives, goals and the dedication to the customers reflect in our adverts. So, cleverly placing the right factors in the right place is a challenge in the strategic planning decision making. In this ever changing business environment the only way of survival of an organisation depends upon the decisions it makes. Thus strategic planning is the key factor to success. In this research we will briefly discuss about the tools of strategy and the outcomes of implementing these tools in an organisation. We will discuss about SWOT analysis, PESTEL analysis and Potters Five Force. 3 (b). SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis is one of the tools in strategic planning and decision making. This tool helps us to judge the organizations position in the business environment. SWOT stands for Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. Strength The organizations factors which are most influential with respect to customers, market share, and brand value and so on. The strength of an organisation maybe its good will, an excellent customer relationship management and many other sensitive factors which lies on the organizations side. Weakness The things which are an advantage of the competitor and a disadvantage to our organisation. The weakness factor may depend upon our organizations own business policies and or work ethics which binds us to a corner, the competitors takes advantage of this issue and exploit the opportunity but fine tuning our strategy and decision making will bring in a drastic change. Opportunities The chance in which all the things fall in line for our organisation to exploit and to make a profit of it is the definition for opportunities. Opportunities can occur due to a change in trend of customers, brand switching an so on. It is wise for an organisation to make use of such opportunities. Threats The main and most important factor is the threats from rivals and competitors. If an organisation fails to with stand the threats from the competitors then it will surely end up in bankruptcy, the competition may come up with innovative ways of marketing and attracting customers so it is our bounded duty to over come the competitors by creating innovative ways of marketing through strategic planning. Example for SWOT analysis Soft drink giant: Coca-Cola Strengths One of the most successful organisations of all time. The brand value of Coca-Cola is worth more than $68 million in 2009. the company manages its products over 200 countries with over 700 products which is a gigantic goal to achieve but maintaining it as the leader of its kind is still another battle. People tend to be faithful to the Coca-Cola brand because of its one main product the cola drink. So a wide variety of different products from the company with the same brand name tends to market the products for itself. (www. interbrand. com) Weaknesses The Coca-ColaCompany products are beverages so the main weakness for them is that they have this lobby of beverage segment and this is might be their weakness because in the long run they might hit the ground if any other company produces a better beverage. And nowadays people tend to make choices more often than in the past so it is a vulnerable area to be looked upon! Opportunities People are concerned about their health now more than ever so the introduction of Coke Zero a new product from the Coca-ColaCompany is catching up a considerable amount of market share because of its new distinct taste without added sugar in some countries but basically its a new drink with zero calories, the company claims!. The company is exploiting the current trend of health criteria. Threats The main competitor of Coca-ColaCompany is the PepsiCo Inc, the Pepsi Cola Company introduces new products in response to the Coca-ColaCompany. The Coca-ColaCompany is trying very hard to cope up with the situation. During 998 the PepsiCo Inc managed to out smart the company. So without the proper strategic planning PepsiCo will soon go beyond the Cokes victory 3(c). The PESTLE Analysis The most important tool of strategic planning is the PESTEL analysis. The PESTEL analysis is a tool which helps us to judge our position in the market with respect to the macro environment. PESTLE stands for P Political Forces, E Economical Forces, S -Social Forces, T -Technological Forces, L Legislative Forces and E Environmental Forces. These forces influence the overall performance, market value, finance and customer relationship of the company. We will briefly discuss about the PESTEL forces one by one by implementing into an organisation. Example : Integrated Electronics (INTEL) Semiconductors. The Intel Semiconductors are the producers of the famous Intel microchips which literally runs the computer industry but with some rivals such as AMD Inc (Advanced Micro devices). Here we will apply the PESTEL analysis to know the factors that are influencing the Intel semiconductors. Political : The implementation of new taxes and the internationalism of the products tends to make the company to adhere to strict rules in each country which the company is ventured on. So Intel is focusing upon its new products onto buyers and not on further research and development because of the political pressure around the organisation. Economic: The semiconductor industry is in rise. So, the financial status of the company is rising due to a smaller amount of competitors there is lower amount of threats so the economic factor of the company is in concrete position as of now. Social: The company is present in an ever changing dynamic business environment so it has to be sensitive to changes that occur in the environment and then adapt to the changes that takes place. Technological: The semiconductor industry is ever growing in rapidly increasing speed. So, the technological advancements of the industry must be up to date due to high growth ratio of processors which are used in computers across the globe. The research and development team comes up with new innovative ideas to integrate the previous processing unit into the new one with advanced technology so the computation power increases more than double the time the predecessor microchip used to compute. Legislative: The legal factors are important factors of the company because every country that the company venture into must strictly adhere to that particular countrys rules and regulations. Environment: Being a semiconductor company the company must look after environmental issues which affect the world so the semiconductor devices must be environmentally friendly and recycling of the devices plays a vital role in the environmental factor. The company has a good background of making environmentally friendly chips and recycling units so the environmental issue is under control. (http://ivythesis. typepad. com) 3(d). Porters Five Forces: The porters five forces is a business strategy tool which is used to analyse the position of a company and assessing its strength with respect to the competitors in this case new entrants and their impact in this ever changing environment. The porters five forces are: Existing rivalry among firms Threat of new entrants determinants of supplier power Determinants of buyer power Threat of substitute products Example: AIRBUS The porters five applied to the Airbus aviation company who have been the most influential carriers of all time apart from Boeing. These two major aircraft companies were literally in a fight for gaining the considerable mount of market share. Since the introduction of Airbus A380 the Boeing Company has lost lot of customers. The new entrant in our case the A380 is so much advanced than the legendary Boeing 747 which literally ruled the skies. The Boeing 747 was a fuel efficient and economically well versed passenger and good carrier aircraft but the major flaw in t he Boeing decision making is that it was not concentrating on the future of the aircraft but it produced a wide variant of Boeing 700 series but the cleverly devised strategic plan of Airbus was a nightmare to the Boeing corporation. The A380 has an excellent performance with regardless of its massive size the jumbo jet can people double the time the Boeing 747 used to carry. Since the aviation industry has only fewer concentrations of rivals the market share is huge compared to other industries. So with the new A380, Airbus has a considerable amount of stake in the airline industry. But Boeings answer to A380 is the new 787 dreamliner. Which is more fuel efficient but in the case of size the A380 outsmarts the Boeing. Importance of Change: The change management in an organisation is the most important factor which influences the future of an organisation. It describes an strategic approach in modifying or altering an organizations internal factors such as teams, individuals etc. there are different ways to achieve the change in an organisation by collaborative which is done by providing workshops and seminars explaining about the change to the people working in the organization. Consultative the people are informed about the change and the feedback of the change is taken into consideration. Directive the members of the staff are informed about the details of the change and the sensitivity of the change. Coercive the members are forced to follow the change. Example of Change: The acquisition of Iberia by British Airways The British Airways acquired the Iberia for $7 billion and it made the third largest airline in the world. The member of the staff was quickly adapted to the change in different management team. The Iberia staff members were given a change management session on order to cope up with the new acquisition. The acquisition made the stock holders value to increase and they were given a 55 percent of the new airlines share. 4. Conclusion: We have so far discussed about some of the Strategic planning tools and the ways in which they can be exploited. And in conclusion we can say that the way in which we approach the organisation with the necessary tools and strategic planning will make a gigantic impact on the organisation in the present and in the future. In this ever changing business environment the challenge for each organisation is to identify the needs of the customers and to create an appropriate strategic plan to approach the problem which will provide the optimum results which can benefit the customers as well as the organisation. . The Importance of Donating Blood Essay -- Medical Health Essays

The Importance of Donating Blood The birth of Chase changed our lives forever. We were not sure if we were able to have children and after 5 years of trying with not avail, Chase was born. He was 5 lbs. and 8 oz. He was so tiny and fragile, but the love we had for our son was enormous. When Chase turned five months old, the doctors told us that he had leukemia. They said it would take a miracle for him to see his 1st birthday. We as parents did not know what to do or who to turn for to help and guide us in the right directions. Chase would undergo many surgeries and need many pints of blood. It is often that people do not understand why donating blood is important part of life. What if Chase was your 5-month-old son? We need blood for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia and other illnesses. Donating blood can save so many lives, one day it could save you or a loved one’s life. If all of us took the time to see the importance of blood donation than many people would have a greater will to give. Donating blood is a selfless act; it takes 30-45 minutes out of your day and can be a lifesaver for so many. Although we all would like to do are part, there are eligibility requirements in order to donate blood. To give blood you must be healthy, be at least 17-year’s old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 56 days. Some instances will make you ineligible to donate. Recently getting a tattoo or piercing, having a cold or flu, or having sexual relations with someone who has used drugs can make you ineligible. If you have been in a same sex relationship, you are not able to donate blood. In addition, certain place that you might have traveled... ...d that they got support they needed when it came time. There are many ways and places to donate. This is the time to join in and become a donor. Your one donation can save their lives. If it were not for the everyday heroes' that take time out of their busy day to give a piece of themselves, then many more people would not be here. Blood is one way of giving your support. Please help save a life and give what you can. Do not make excuses on why you cannot. Come up with reasons why you can. Reaction Paper: the Exorcism of Emily Rose

THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE REACTION PAPER Many years ago, there was part of history in Heaven, where angels fought against God. The war broke out after one angel, named Lucifer the light bearer, became envious about God’s power. Lucifer gathered his own army of angels. The battle led into an extermination of distrustful angels in heaven. Lucifer was defeated by Michael, God’s Archangel. The fallen angels of Lucifer fell on earth and Lucifer was banished by God into a place where he could never do anything evil in Heaven. Lucifer roams on earth in another name, called Satan, the prince of darkness. In the movie, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, there was a big misunderstanding about the death of a certain girl, named Emily Rose. The movie started when Emily was found dead. More stories about the life of Emily were just flashed back in the trial court. In the scene, Fr. Richard Moore was charged of negligent homicide after doing the rite of exorcism. Experts in the field of psy chology, neurology and medicine were called to explain the causes of Emily’s death. Most of the experts said and agreed that Emily was suffering from epilepsy and psychosis. Some experts stated that Fr.Moore’s advice led to the death of Emily Rose. As a justification about the movie, I believe that Emily’s death was caused by demonic possession. Her actions were not the results, caused by epilepsy and psychosis. With her actions narrated by some citizen who knew her, I believe that she was truly possessed by demons. Some said that her actions were inhumane and scary. As what was Fr. Richard Moore was telling, he witnessed that Emily’s actions and movements were manipulated by some evil forces surrounding her. One who is being possessed shows the symptoms of uncontrollable strength raging from the victim’s body. Some people who were possessed had more than one demon possessing them. That is why the possessed are strong and scary. Only the power of Go d through the use of his servants can extract demonic possession. As what I believe of being a Christian, I believe that those people who have less faith will easily fall in Satan’s hands. To avoid such incident, we must know how to pray to God. We must not rely on our own human nature, for it has no match against Satan’s dark powers. We must try to live in accordance to God’s will for he alone knows what is right and wrong.

Mr. Know All Essay

Mr. K seems to be a fake person but finally he saves the lady’s life and marriage. It’s not always good to judge a book by its cover. A Road Not Take: How people in the world make decisions. Hots: * Inference. Interpreting the sigh (somewhere ages and ages hence) was he happy or not? It wasn’t that he wasn’t happy with his choice. It’s only he wanted to be able to walk through both paths. Once you’ve taken a single path you change your life forever. You can’t jump into the same river twice. You’re a different person, both you and the river change. Even if you do go back, you’re not the same person anymore. One path leads you to another. * Explaining a pattern. * Problem solving. How does he choose? How does he weigh the pros and cons? He uses this skill to compare and contrasts, he tries to see which one’s better which one was used more, in the end he just takes the one that wanted wear, the one that more people have walked on and that’s way we can’t be sure whether or not his choice was correct. He tried to see where the roads bend. (â€Å"I kept the other to another day† though we know he can’t bring back time†) maybe he’s choosing between good and good. Literary terms: * Symbolism. The path, time and day, yellow woods – either dawn (new beginning) or the seasons (fall) – a time of change. Metamorphosis. * Theme. What was he trying to tell us? Was he happy?. It’s one of hope and one of regret. It’s up to interpretation. There’s both regret and comfort. (The more correct – he’s not sorry about what he took but he’s sorry about the human feeling of having to have both and being forced to choose one. ) He has a dilemma and he has to make a decision. As I grew older: On the one hand Langston Hughes could be just a regular person who has dreams, and as he grows older his dreams are obliterated by a big wall causing a shadow and either he decide to break through it and achieve his goals. However, we know he was African American and the fact of him being black, made him who he is. By knowing how he feels about racism and discrimination, we understand the poem better. When he’s a kid he doesn’t understand he’s being put within a society in which he can succeed. But as he’s growing older he understands he can’t achieve what he wants to achieve with the current reality. When he becomes an adult he understand how limited he is. He lays there in the shadow looking at the wall. Then, he look at his dark black hand (negative connotation) on the other hand, these black hands are the ones that smash the wall into thousands of pieces of light. He’s his own master, he has the power. If he wants to do it he and only he can change is fate. HOTS: * Distinguishing different prospective – his perspective towards life change throughout the poem. (Kid – Insight – Won’t accept his fate). * Cause & Effect – he basically has to cause the effect. He’s the person (the simple man) who can take charge. He’s the only one who can change his fate and cause the effect. If there wasn’t a cause and he fact he’d just stay there lying looking at the wall grow older and older. He believes the discrimination is wrong but it’s not enough to talk and the action that he takes violently by smashing the wall and shattering the darkness might change his fate and then he’ll be able to achieve his dreams. Literary terms: * Symbols: mood, hand, theme, racism, discrimination. Read the poems and story and read all the questions. Read all the summaries. As I grew older – the question we answered on the board. How it’s being checked – 80% content,20% grammar.

Analysis of a film poster of Harry Potter Essays

Analysis of a film poster of Harry Potter Essays Analysis of a film poster of Harry Potter Paper Analysis of a film poster of Harry Potter Paper Essay Topic: Film The Glass Castle The poster does give an indication of the genre because there is a castle in the background which indicates that it has something to do with schools as the children in the poster are also wearing school uniform. The teachers look incredibly strict because they are not smiling and their facial expressions are dreadfully cheerless. The type of font that is used in the poster is very sharp and bold and t looks like lightning. Its stands out, which is important so the viewers can see what the film is called and get a brief idea in what it is about. The title is yellow therefore it also stands out a lot because the background is blue. The film looks like it is about witchcraft for the reason that the female teacher is wearing a pointed hat which represents witches. Also all the teachers are wearing black which also represents mystery and darkness. Dumbledoor is very old. He looks strict but very clever as well. His clothing looks very heavy and he is wearing a long cloak, a hat and glasses. He is standing right above Hermione but is also standing above everyone else. I think they did that to show that he is the most powerful. He is sanding straight and he looks like he is looking down on us and the other teachers and pupils. Hermione looks very cheerful, as shown in her facial expressions. She is holding books which interpret that she is clever and a good student. Hermione is wearing school uniform which also gave me the idea that she is in school. She looks very polite and mature. She is standing with her back straight and she has a good posture. Her uniform is a white skirt, a jumper and a black cloak. She is standing very close to Ron and Dumbledoor. The connotations of her image are that she may be very intelligent because she is holding books and that she is very gracious and grown-up because of her posture and facial expressions. Ron looks very innocent and quite different from the rest of the cast. However he looks like hes got a lot of tricks up his sleeves meaning that he can trick anyone easily and that he is very sneaky. He also is wearing uniform. He is wearing a tie with a whit shirt and a jumper. He has got his arm crossed which indicates that he might be very bossy. The connotations of his image might be that he looks quite bossy or even nerdy at times. Snake looks angry and by his facial expressions I can see that he is frowning. I can see that he is wearing a long black cloak. He has got his hand on his heart to show that he is powerful. His hair is incredibly messy and his posture is good. The connotations of his image are that he is trying to tell people that he is powerful and decent because he has his hand on his heart. Miss McGonagall looks very severe and stern. She is wearing a hat that is usually represented by witches which suggested that she might be a witch. She looks daunting and also very powerful. The connotations of her image are that she looks very powerful and frightening. Voldermorre looks sneaky and secretive. He is frowning a little bit but he has no certain facial expression. He doesnt looks very powerful; he looks like a cleaner or guard of the school. He is wearing a long furry coat and doesnt looks like a teacher. He looks very conning and not very trustworthy. Harry Potter is the main character as the name of the film is Harry Potter. He looks very scared and he is the only one that isnt looks straight at us. He is the one that is the most enlarged in the picture which also suggested that he was the main character. He gives the impression of being very clever and looks like he always has an answer to everybodys question. He also seem like he knows how to sort out problems and how to get himself out of trouble. Besides the characters there are other objects on the poster such as a train. It says hog warts express across it. It suggests that the children might be on the train during the film or that the train goes through the school. There is also a castle which may be there school. It looks like it is on top a hill or a large mountain. There is loads of lightening in the background which creates a very spooky image. The forest also looks very frightening. The caption Journey beyond your imagination stands out because the background is very dark and the font is white. The positioning of the caption is at the top of the poster right in the cenre. It has no specific technique that I can see, athough it seems that the main meaning of the poster is to tell us even more spectacular things can happen. Most of the writing is mainly to the centre of the page, apart from all the cast. The font is mostly capital letters and some words are smaller than others because they are possibly less important than the rest. Most of the writing is in white seeing that the background is very dark. There are different font sizes for different parts of the poster. Obviously the more important writing will be in the bigger font. At the bottom of the page I can see keywords such as Harry Potter; this could tell us that he is the main character if we havent already discovered that. There is also a WB sign that stands for Warner Brothers which represents the cinema the film is shown in.

NetBeans is Javas Popular Software Development Platform

NetBeans is Java's Popular Software Development Platform NetBeans is a popular software development platform, mostly for Java, that provides wizards and templates to help developers build applications quickly and easily. It includes modular components across a wide range of tools and features an IDE (integrated development environment) that allows developers to create applications using a GUI. While NetBeans  is primarily a tool for Java developers, it also supports PHP, C and C and HTML5. NetBeans History NetBeans origins stem from a university project at the Charles University of Prague in the Czech Republic in 1996. Charmingly called Zelfi  IDE for Java (a takeoff on the programming language Delphi), NetBeans  was the first Java IDE ever. The students were enthused about it and worked to turn it into a commercial product. It In the late 90s, it was acquired by Sun Microsystems which  integrated it into its set of Java tools and then turned it over to open source. By June 2000, the original netbeans  site was launched. Oracle purchased Sun in 2010 and thus also acquired NetBeans, which continues as an open source project sponsored by Oracle. It now resides at  Ã¢â‚¬â€¹www.netbeans.org. What Can Netbeans Do? The philosophy behind NetBeans is to provide an extensibleIDE that provides all the tools necessary to develop desktop, enterprise, web and mobile applications. The ability to install plug-ins allows developers to tailor the IDE to their individual development tastes. In addition to the IDE, NetBeans includes the NetBeans Platform, a framework for building applications with Swing and JavaFX, the Java GUI toolkits. This means that NetBeans provides pluggable menu and toolbar items, helps manage windows and perform other tasks when developing a GUI. Various bundles can be downloaded, depending on the primary programming language you use (e.g,  Java SE, Java SE and JavaFX,  Java EE). Although it doesnt really matter, as you can pick and choose which languages to program with through the plug-in manager. Primary Features Swing GUI Builder:  Drag and drop Swing components to build an applications GUI.JavaFX UI toolkit: Work with JavaFX in the same way as Swing, easily incorporating its components.Developer Collaboration:  Work with other developers on using NetBeans through the Netbeans Community which includes forums, tutorials, training materials  and the NetBeans Dream Team, a group of committed enthusiasts.Netbeans Platform:  The modular NetBeans Platform provides APIs to help make desktop applications easier by handling some of the more common tasks involved in developing Swing applications. Netbeans Releases and Requirements NetBeans is cross-platform, meaning that it runs on any platform that supports the Java Virtual Machine including Windows, Mac OS X, Linus, and Solaris.   Although open source - meaning that it is run by the community  -   NetBeans adheres to a regular, rigorous release schedule. The most recent release was 8.2 in October 2016.
