seattle ? mit

seattle ? mit for a brief moment over the summer i think i truly believed that i was a working adult, living the 9 to 5, subconsciously looking forward to the paycheck every other friday. i thought a lot about how i liked this lifestyle.01 the 9 to 5 i didnt care much for. the software i did was pretty interesting. i liked the feeling of transferring income to a savings account. by august i grew to love the seattle summer, with every sunset being a thousand shades of orange fading into blue. not having work to do after work was a blessing and a curse. i was spending most weeknights by myself in a tired haze, but traveled a lot on weekends to see friends. i spent more time with 20-somethings than something-teens. i regretted not living emin/em seattle instead of the suburbia that is kirkland, because i think it wouldve been a lot more fun, and there would have been more things to do. traveling this summer gave me more perspective as to where id want to live after mit.02 ideally a city, and seattle is quite nice -- im concerned about when its not summer, though natives say its not even as bad as boston or new york. obviously, the Bay exists, though not without its rampant problems. im slightly afraid of the person i would become if i lived in LA. portland is actually pretty cool and felt like a smaller seattle for the weekend i was there. being in new york city for a week before school was a slap in the face after being in the west coast, but it grounded me, and i realized that i liked nyc more than i thought, and that deep down ive always liked nyc, and id want to live there. boston is okay and cute. my mind intermittently drifts towards daydreams of working remote for some western software company while living in japan. being back at mit for only a week has already put me fully back in mit mode.03 its frankly been a jarring transition, both in environment and in lifestyle. id been passively thinking about (and living) life after mit for so long that id almost forgotten i had one more year left. but after the first cc-dormspam, the all-day acapella auditions, the 3am fire alarms, the torrential rain on the first day of classes, and playing tetris on my calendar, we are Fully Back, and it makes me question the time i spent in seattle, and was it even real at all? mit does this to you. i missed mit, and i missed next house and east campus and toons and all the little things about cambridge and boston i didnt even know i missed. im living in a cozy single at the end of the hall. im genuinely excited for every class im taking this semester. ive come out of the summer feeling a lot better (and healthier) about my emotions and relationships. im happy that me and joanna had an adult breakup and that were on good terms and still care a lot about each other. im glad i made new friends. My Youngest Of Three Boys - 878 Words

Starting my life off, things were great, I was the youngest of three boys; Alex is my oldest brother who is currently 24, my second oldest brother is 20. In addition to my two brothers I have both supportive and caring parents. My family and I practice Methodist, which started shortly after I was born with me being baptized while surrounded by my; aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, two brothers, and both my mom and dad. After being baptized as a family we would occasionally go to church but sadly as time pasted we when went less and less till we stopped shortly before we moved to Florida. The summer before we moved to Florida I was in the fourth grade and became good friends with a girl named Kristen and her family was heavily religious. Kristen and I started to hang out more and more one day she invited me to go to one of her churches services and I really enjoyed it, afterwards they had a youth group where they had a bonding activity. Kristen and I went to church a few more times before I left in late July to move to Jacksonville. Shortly after arriving in Jacksonville, my family and I started looking for a Methodist church there was just one problem there were no formal Methodist churches near us, so we tried a startup church that was held at a local elementary school on Sunday. The service was ok I think that we all found it a little on the odd side of having a church inside a elementary school’s cafeteria; despite this we continued to go a few more times tillShow MoreRelatedAdler And His Theory On Birth Order890 Words   |  4 Pagesearn my Bachelors in psychology. In todays society, it is not unusual to correlate teenage pregnancy with a form of moral taboo. Though humanity does not embrace this issue, amongst 15 to 17-year-olds, the pregnancy rate is 38.7 per 1,000 girls as of 2017. Within the United States alone, the same age group contributes 11% of births total. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Teenage Pregnancy and Moral Taboo" essay for you Create order When teenagers become sexually active, the risk of unwanted pregnancy becomes increasingly present. An individual who conceives a child before adulthood will ultimately be burdened with tasks and stresses most adults struggle with before escaping childhood themselves. By creating emotional and bodily pain, damaging relationships, and altered educational and or occupational agendas, teenage pregnancy proves to disrupt the life and health of a young adult. A study made by Barbara Wolfe and Maria Perozek shows that teens bearing children remarkably affected, and modified, the ratio of children who were said to be in excellent health and the proportions with acute or persistent conditions. However, mother and baby alike are going to experience medical difficulties during pregnancy and the birthing process. While not all teenage mothers are affected by mental or emotional health changes, many and close to most are. Adolescent parenthood is associated with a range of adverse outcomes for young mothers, including mental health problems such as depression, substance abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder. (Hodgkinson et al.) During the pregnancy and often times after, young moms are faced with stress and this disrupts the stability of ones mental state. Though the care of an infant may exacerbate psychological anguish, mental and emotional health can be challenged by the environments that contain your life. Beyond the pain found in the mind, there is also pain present in the body. Pregnant teenagers are more likely to develop preeclampsia, anemia, excessive internal and external bleeding during labor; premature delivery also occurs regularly. Becoming a teen parent also puts a strain on relationships and social standings. According to Kristin Luker, author of Dubious Concepts: The Politics of Teenage Pregnancy, The idea that a pregnant unmarried woman would show herself not only in public but in schools, where the minds of innocent children could be corrupted was more unthinkable still. (Luker 2). For fear of humiliation, scrutiny, and or social ridicule, finding pregnant teens in public let alone the classroom becomes increasingly difficult. Though nearly 80% of teenage parents have a partner who was five years within their own age (Luker 2)., teen dads are seemingly invisible to the public eye. Where families and friends are concerned, there are definite changes in these bonds and relationships. Reactions to the pregnancy of a teen may vary depending on the structure and stability of a family or friendship. Having a child in teenage years is socially frowned upon and considered morally wrong, and as a result, it is not uncommon for relatives or friends to experience a falling out. Even after delivery, parenthood is a struggle and dictates most of the decisions made from that moment on. Therefore, whether it was intentional or not, becoming a teen parent takes focus from a social life to focus on a child. Arthur Campbell once famously wrote, the girl who has an illegitimate c hild at the age of 16 suddenly has 90% of her life script written for her. (Hoffman 1.) Though this is true, even if the mother is 14, 16 or 18, there will be many hardships. Once there is a child present the equation for life plans changes completely. Plans for an educational and or occupational future are morphed into plans for keeping the child safe and well cared for. Director of HEW, Joseph Califano is quoted saying, Teenage pregnancy-the entry into parenthood of individuals who barely are beyond childhood themselves- is one of the most serious and complex problems facing the nation today ¦The birth of a child can usher in a dismissal future of unemployment, poverty, family breakdown, emotional stress, dependency on public agencies and health problems of mother and child. (Luker 73). Teenage pregnancy is indeed a serious yet complex issue that leaves many unestablished children, in a sense, with several difficulties that go beyond wellness and health.

Music began to play through the beakers of the classroom and it was an old tragically hip song that I was quite familiar with. It brought me back to a time when I was younger and that extraordinary band was all that was played throughout my house on the cassette player or stereo. Music has always triggered so many memories from the past for me and always brings a smile to my face when I think of something wonderful that happened when I was around those melodies or lyrics. We will write a custom essay sample on Thought or any similar topic only for you Order Now I Instantly thought about the amazing trip my family and I took when I was 3 to P. E. I and all I could remember was owing across the confederation bridge and listening to the entire tragically hip album. It blows my mind thinking of how I was such a young age but just because of this one tune heard during class, I remember a big pile of amazing memories. It turned today’s gloomy day into a happy one that’s for sure. Day 2, Wednesday It’s been a few days since my last Journal. Today some more music in the classroom was playing that I knew and it was the band blue rodeo a song called Hasn’t Hit Me Yet. More memories came back from hearing this song because my parents told me tones of how they fell In love at this band’s concert. For some reason I have always felt that I was one of the few people In and around my age group that recognized and still enjoyed older music that was heard from when we were younger. To my surprise I looked over and many other of my fellow students were mouthing the words and singing along to the song. A full-size smile was painted on my face because I was so shocked at this surprise. A certain someone stood out to me though that I have never really paid any attention too. He knew this song off by heart and was clearly enjoying t as much as I was. We made eye contact and he could see I knew the song Just as well. Since most people my age listen strictly to rap or pop music we were both humbled and pleased that we knew this older, less recognized by our age group song. I was Intrigued and went home with a smile on my face today. Day 3, Thursday It is the third day of music playing in the classroom occurred and I just thought to great bands and music from the past. Music is going downhill nowadays and I fear that it will someday be lost. Some of the greats such as Nirvana and Pink Floyd will ever be known to the future youth and generations Just because of the recent Pop and cheesy rap music taking over. Thinking of this makes me realize how everyone on the earth as of right now, will some day be completely gone and an entire new population will be here instead. These realizations are insane and boggle my mind and are occurring a lot today. Day 4, Friday Today is Friday and because of this I am in a good mood knowing the weekend is a few hours of school away. I walked in to class smiling and all I noticed was the grinning face of the guy from Day 2. I went a bit rosy cheeked as I walked to my seat and was so distracted that I bumped into another student and dropped all of my books. I thought to myself â€Å"Oh! What fine luck I have! † picked up my books, and sat in my seat. Those cheeks of admiration and shyness went to cheeks of embarrassment and humiliation. Class began and I haven’t been able to stop looking over at him. Once the bell had finally ringed I headed to the door and to my surprise he had opened it for me. I smiled and walked to my locker. Day 5, Monday A new week is ahead of me yet I am sad the weekend is over. How to cite Thought, Papers

Different Market Structures in Australia Buyers and Sellers

Question: Discuss about the Different Market Structures in Australia for Buyers and Sellers. Answer: Introduction The number of buyers and sellers present in the market determines the market structure. Perfectly competitive; monopoly; monopolistically competitive and oligopoly are four types of market structures exist in the economy. When there are many buyers and sellers and the identical products are bought and sold; then the market structure is said to be perfectly competitive. In this market the price is determined through interaction of demand and supply. Hence, the participants are price takers. This kind of market structure is considered to be the most efficient one as it produces optimum output from the given resources (Baldwin and Scott 2013). In reality perfectly competitive market hardly exists and they take the form of a monopolistically competitive market. In a monopolistically competitive market structure, the products are closely substitute, however, the producers differentiate them in terms of colour; shape and packaging. This enables them to charge their own price and they have some sort of monopoly power over price. In a monopoly market, a single seller controls the market. There are many consumers in the monopoly market and the market is regulated with barriers to entry. Since, the monopolist is the sole producer, he is the price maker. A monopolist can charge high price and maximizes its revenue. In the oligopoly market structure, there are sellers and number of consumers. The oligopoly market produces almost identical product and the firms compete with each other to capture the maximum market share. The price is determined through collusion in this kind of market structure. In this paper, the different types of market structures in Australia will be discussed. Monopolistically Competitive Market In Australia apart from oligopoly and monopoly firms, the rest of the businesses operates under monopolistically competitive market. Restaurant and catering industry is an important industry under this market structure. In Australia, there are lots of restaurants who are engaged in huge competition among themselves. There are no barriers to enter this market, however, it requires huge investment to open a new restaurant and establish its brand. The prices of the restaurant meal have augmented by 1.7% in Australia (competitionpolicyreview.gov.au 2014). They offer same items but the price may vary from one restaurant firm to another. The variation in price takes place in terms of difference in taste of food; difference in quality and quantity. In restaurant industry, the price often varies due to quality of service provided. Due to quality of service, people often perceive the products offered are different from each other, even they are identical. Therefore, the monopolistically compe titive firms have a certain degree of monopoly power over price. The restaurants also offer different cuisines, for example, some offer Chinese; some provides continental and so on, in order to differentiate from other firms. The firms under this industry are engaged in promotional activity and advertisement to make its product different from others. Monopoly Market The famous monopoly firm in Australia is the Australia Post that operates in the postal service industry. This is operated by government of Australia and running the business for more than 200 years. This is the largest logistic company and monopoly provider of certain mail service (Ibisworld.com.au 2016). There are many firms in the postal service, but Australia Post has retained its monopoly power by charging a very low price for the mail delivery. It has largest system all over the nation and its service is available at every corner of this country. In the rural region, the service of this firm is available at same fare (ABC News 2014). This postal service firm practices second-degree price discrimination. It charges lower price for bulk mail delivery than single mail. Moreover, it charges according to the weight of the parcel. Price discrimination is a major characteristic of the monopoly firm. This firm has taken measures to advance its parcel operations, as online retail soppin g has created huge demand for parcels. Online parcel delivery demand is helping Australia Post to grow its business volume (Carbonell 2011). The government has restricted the private firms to drop their parcel on the boxes of Australia Post, this has created barriers to protect heritage of this company. at present, the Post is facing competition form postal service firms like FedEx and DHL. Therefore, Australia Post focuses on customer retention policy by developing its IT department. This firm can have more power over the postal and mailing service, if it pursues digital mail strategy. Oligopoly Market The supermarket chains of Australia operate under oligopoly market structure. Woolworths and Cole are two giant retail chains in this industries. They together form duopoly market structure. The other firms are IGA; Costco; Food Works; SPAR and Aldi (Knox 2016). Among all these, Coles and Woolworths are two giant supermarket chain that captures 70 to 80% share of the market. These two firms form cartel and sell similar quantity at same price. However, one can cheat and produce more than the cartel quantity at a lower price. Cheating by one firm enables it to increase market share. Since, both firms cheat by producing high quantity, the market price tends to fall. This price fall hampers the revenue earning of the other firms and they are lagged behind and unable to compete with these giant retain stores. However, the oligopoly firms do not engage in price war, as too low price may hamper the revenue earned (The Australian 2013). Therefore, it is beneficial to compete in terms of sale s in order to capture the maximum market share. The barrier to entry in the oligopolistic market structure is assumed to be high, as it entails massive investment to set up retail chain stores and to create the brand value. Conclusion From the above discussion, it is clear that different market structures are clear in the Australian market. Australia Post operates in the monopoly market. The supermarket chain of this country are of oligopolistic in nature, in fact Woolworths and Coles together forms duopoly market structure. In Australia, the restaurant and catering sector are of monopolistically competitive in nature. References ABC News. (2014). Post offices are the lifeblood of rural Australia. KES The Play Essays

KES The Play Essays KES The Play Essay KES The Play Essay The play Kes portrays the life of a fifteen years old, Billy Casper, who lives with is mother, Mrs. Casper, and his step-brother Jud. The play occurs during and after Billys last days at school. It shows the way Billy was feeling toward his hawk, and the way he was affected by it. The play takes different stages to build up the plot, Billy notices the hawk in the farms near by his house, getting impressed by the way it lives, catches its food, feeds its youngs. Billy starts to have thoughts about having a hawk as a pet or as an animal that he would care after, and keep for himself. The story takes place in the surroundings of Billys life: his house; newsagent, as he works there for Mr. Porter; Macs house, as the play provides the sense that he is the only friend he has, apart from the argument and fights they have had in the school; the public library as Billy has nicked a book about falconry that had helped him to deal with his hawk and provided him the knowledge he needed to take good care of his hawk; the school that Billy attends, as the play takes some parts in the school and as he faces some trouble there; and some local shops that he passes by. Billy is not welcomed by the people he lives with as it shows in his behavior with them, his attitude towards them, and their behavior and the way they treat him. His mother at the beginning of the play accused him of having fags, even thought she sounded like not being sure, and then she asked him for several things to get her before going to his school. I think due to her accusing him of having fags he refused to get her the cigarettes and other things she asked for, giving an excuse that he will be late for school. Some days later Billy goes to Macs house, as he needed someone to go with to the birds nest, watching them fly, land, feed and look after there kids. Macs mother mistreated him by telling him bugger off you little sod, as a reward of throwing a hand full of dirt at the window after she refused to wake up Mac giving reasons that its still early for him to hang out. Billy and his brother Jud dont live a good relationship, it goes on at the beginning of the play, as Jud refuses to set the alarm for Billy, he drains the milk pot so he wont leave any for Billy, being pessimistic with Billy Jud tries to convince him that he will only find work down the pit after he finishes school, for that Billy eats Juds snap that Jud has prepared for work. But Billy tries not to think about working there as it shows from the way he was talking to the teacher when he was offering a job down the pit, but Jud keep on telling him that he cant work down the pit either because he cant read and write or either because he is not tough enough to work there as he calls him a weedy little bugger. As things were go on good with his work boss Mr. Porter in his newsagent shop until Billy shakes the ladder that Mr.Porter was standing on, on purpose that made Mr. Porter calls him You clumsy young bugger. Mr. Porter was quite worried that Billy might not be able to deliver all his papers at time, as his brother Jud have taken his bike, and that might cause him some loss in his shops profit if Billy delivers the papers later than he is supposed. I learn that these people treat him generally in the same way, but with a difference from one to the other. I think Billy likes to have conversations with people even though he dont know them, as when he was delivering his papers in the early morning, after leaving Mr. Porters newsagent, and saw the milkman who started an conversation with Billy about having something to deliver his papers with even if its a Third class riding which is better than first class walking, as the milkman thinks, but according to Billy that is no good as he says that it do no more than five miles per hour, and that he can do faster on a kids scooter.
